Getting started

How to start a shift (work period)

Every day starts with a work period. It records the cash in the drawer and every sale until the shift is closed. Here is how to start one and take your first order.

8 steps About 2 minutes Owner, admin or manager starts the shift

Before you start: count the cash in the drawer. You will type this amount as the opening float in step 3.

Part 1Start the shift

Step 1: Open TekDot POS

Open your restaurant's POS. You will see your restaurant logo on the left and the PIN keypad on the right.

  1. PIN keypad — every staff member has their own PIN.

Step 2: Enter your PIN

Tap the numbers of your staff PIN. A dot fills in for each number. Made a mistake? Tap the orange ✕ to clear it.

  1. The dots fill in as you type your PIN.
  2. Tap the arrow → to log in.

Step 3: Enter the opening float and tap Start

If no shift is open yet, the Start Work Period box opens by itself right after you log in. Count the cash in the drawer, then:

  1. Choose the currency you counted — USD $ or KHR ៛.
  2. Type the opening float: the cash in the drawer at the start of the shift (for example 50).
  3. Tap Start. You can add a note first if you want (optional).

Step 4: The shift is open

You are now on the home screen and the work period is running. All sales from now on are counted in this shift until it is closed.

  1. Work Period — see the shift that is running, past shifts, and close the shift at the end of the day.
  2. The name of the person who is logged in.

That's it — the shift is open. Other staff can now log in with their own PIN and start taking orders. They will not be asked for the float again.

Part 2Take your first order

Step 5: Tap Tables

On the home screen, tap Tables to see your floor plan. (For takeaway or walk-in orders, tap New Order instead.)

  1. Tables opens the floor plan.

  2. Tap a table to open it. Free tables are brown.

Step 7: Add items, then tap Close – Send

Tap products on the right to add them to the order. Use the category list to find items faster, or search by name.

  1. Tap a product to add it. Tap it again to add one more.
  2. The order items appear here. Tap the red ✕ to remove an item before it is sent.
  3. Tap Close – Send to send the order to the kitchen. (Tap Process Payment if the guest is paying now.)

Step 8: Order sent to the kitchen

You go back to the floor plan and a message confirms the kitchen has the order.

  1. Order sent to kitchen — the kitchen display and printer have it.
  2. The table turns red = occupied. Tap it again any time to add items or take payment.

You're ready for service

The shift is running and your first order is in the kitchen. At the end of the day, close the shift from Work Period on the home screen.

Common questions

The Start Work Period box did not appear

It only appears when no shift is open. If someone already started today's work period, you go straight to the home screen — just start taking orders.

I logged in but cannot start the shift

Only staff allowed to manage work periods (usually the owner, admin or manager) can start a shift. Ask your manager to log in with their PIN and start it. Owners can change who is allowed in Staff Management → Manage Roles on the home screen.

I tapped Cancel by mistake

No problem. Tap Work Period on the home screen, then tap Start Work Period and enter the float again.

Does every staff member need to start a shift?

No. One work period covers the whole restaurant. Once it is started, everyone else just logs in with their PIN and goes straight to the home screen.

Can I enter the float in Khmer Riel?

Yes. Tap KHR ៛ before typing the amount.
