How to take a table order
Guests are seated and ready to order. Open their table, tap what they want, add any options or notes, and send it to the kitchen with one tap.
Before you start: a shift (work period) must be running. Not started yet? See How to start a shift.
Part 1Open the table
Step 1: Tap Tables
On the home screen, tap Tables to see your floor plan.
- 1Tables.
Step 2: Tap the guests' table
Choose the area at the top, then tap the table where the guests are sitting — here table 13 on the Terrace.
- 1The area (Main Hall, Terrace…).
- 2Tap the table.
Step 3: Enter the guest name (if asked)
If your restaurant has it switched on, TekDot asks who is sitting at the table. Type the name, or leave it empty.
- 1Guest name (optional).
- 2Tap Next.
Step 4: Enter the number of guests (if asked)
Then it asks how many people are at the table (covers).
- 1Number of guests.
- 2Tap Open table.
Owners can switch these two questions on or off in Settings → Table Management. Both can also be changed later on the order screen.
Part 2Add the items
Step 5: Tap products to add them
The order screen opens. Tap a product once to add it — tap again to add another one. The total updates straight away.
- 1Categories — tap one to show only those products (Beer, Mains, Desserts…).
- 2Search — type part of a name to find it fast.
- 3Tap a product to add it.
- 4Added items appear here under Order Items.
- 5Name and Covers — can still be changed here.
- 6The total so far.
- 7Close – Send — sends the order to the kitchen (Part 3).
Step 6: Change, note or remove an item
Every item in the order has its own buttons:
- 1− one less.
- 2+ one more.
- 3Size & modifiers — e.g. large, extra cheese.
- 4Discount on this item only.
- 5Note for the kitchen, e.g. "no ice".
- 6✕ Remove the item.
Step 7: Products with options
Some products have options. When you tap one, a box opens — tick what the guest wants. Extra charges are added to the price automatically.
- 1Tick the options — here "Add egg (+$0.75)".
- 2Tap Add to Order.
Step 8: Add a note for the kitchen
Tap the note button on an item to tell the kitchen something — allergies, cooking, no ice. The note prints on the kitchen ticket.
- 1Type the note — here "No peanuts".
- 2Tap Save.
Nothing goes to the kitchen yet. You can keep adding, changing and removing items until you tap Close – Send.
Part 3Send it to the kitchen
Step 9: Tap Close – Send
When the order is complete, tap the red Close – Send button. The kitchen display and kitchen printer get the order, and you go back to the floor plan.
- 1Order sent to kitchen — the kitchen has it.
- 2The table turns red = guests are seated with an open bill.
Guest paying straight away? Tap Process Payment instead — see How to take a cash payment.
Step 10: Guests want more? Add to the same table
Tap the table again. The order opens with everything already ordered. Tap more products, then tap Close – Send again — only the new items go to the kitchen, on a new ticket.
- 1Preparing — the first items are with the kitchen.
- 2Tap the extra product.
- 3The new item appears at the top.
- 4Close – Send — sends only the new item.
Order sent
The kitchen is preparing the food. When the guests are ready to pay, tap their table and use Process Payment.
Common questions
I tapped the wrong product
Before you tap Close – Send, just tap ✕ on that item (or − if you added one too many).
Can I change an order after sending it?
The order screen shows how many minutes are left to modify the order after it was created. After that, ask your manager — items already sent are already on the kitchen ticket.
How do I add a note for the whole table?
Use the Note button on the left side of the order screen. Use the note button on an item for something about one dish only.
The table already has an order — can I start a separate bill?
Yes. When a table has an open order, tapping it shows its orders and a + New order on this table button, so guests can pay separately.
Guests moved to another table
Open the order and tap Change / Join Table on the left, then pick the new table.
Can waiters take orders on their phone?
Yes — with the TekDot GO waiter app, using the same steps. Orders appear on the POS and in the kitchen straight away.
